II DESCRIPTION AND COMPOSITION OF INGREDIENTS
Generic description: A non-hazardous biodegradable absorbent and bioremediation
agent.
Composition: Free-flowing powder of treated natural cellulosic fibres
with their naturally occurring bacteria
III HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION:
This product is not considered dangerous for supply or use within
the meaning of Regulation 5 of The Chemical Hazards (Information and
Packaging) Regulations 1993 ("CHIP"). The information herein is given
in accordance with Schedule 6 of CHIP to meet the requirements of
Section 6(4) of The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

US Department of Transportation: Hazard Classification - None.

IV FIRST AID MEASURES
EYE CONTACT: Can cause redness or irritation. Flush with water, having
first washed hands.
SKIN CONTACT: Possible irritation of sensitive skin. Wear gloves if
skin very sensitive. Wash with soap and water after use .
INGESTION: May cause nausea or diarrhoea. Drink plenty of water. Do
not induce vomiting. INHALATION: Can cause discomfort to those with
allergies. Move to fresh air if breathing tightens.
V FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA and FIRE FIGHTING METHODS:
As with any finely divided material, there is a dust explosion fire
hazard. When handling in bulk in confined space and during storage
ensure that work area is well ventilated, preferably with extractor
fans.
Flammable limit: >260°C.
Fire-fighting procedures: Treat as paper fire. Use CO2
or water.
Wear respiratory mask to avoid inhalation of dust.
VI ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES:
If spilled in significant quantity, Hegrem can be swept up and recovered
for use - unless on being spilled it has been contaminated. Smaller
quantities may be brushed from the floor and disposed of as non-hazardous
waste or be left to biodegrade.
VII STORAGE AND HANDLING
STORAGE: Store in cool dry conditions.
HANDLING: See Section IV above. Use common sense and care when handling,
and minimise dust. Do not mix with other substances unless expressly
permitted in user instructions. Wear goggles and mask for bulk handling
if allergic reaction is likely.
VIII EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION: See
guidance in Sections IV and VII above.

X STABILITY AND REACTIVITY:
Stability: Stable
Incompatibility: Strong caustics or acids will damage bacteria.
XI TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION:
Hegrem contains no toxic or dangerous substances. It contains natural
non-pathogenic, non-phytotoxic oil-degrading bacteria. However, it
remains advisable to observe a high level of standard workplace hygiene
practice when handling this product.
XII ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION:
Hegrem is biodegradable, being made from natural plant material.
It is environmentally benign if left to compost. Encapsulated oil
will not leach out into the environment.
XIII DISPOSAL:
Hegrem is made form naturally-occurring components and may be safely
disposed of by composting. (See also the advice in Section VI.) Hegrem
which has absorbed hydrocarbons and other organic chemicals will contain
the hazardous substances concerned. Unless kept until biodegradation
is complete, used Hegrem should therefore be disposed of in accordance
with the relevant regulations and consents applicable to the site
and to the hydrocarbons in question. Used Hegrem may be burnt as fuel,
subject to local conditions and consents.
XIV TRANSPORTATION:
No special precautions other than those concerning storage set out
in Section VII.
XV REGULATORY INFORMATION:
None of the components of Hegrem is notifiable under the Notification
of New Substances Regulations 1993. The product must be used in accordance
with all relevant laws, regulations and local consents governing its
use and the disposal of the encapsulated and degraded hydrocarbons
at the site in question, and in accordance with guidelines prepared
by the user under The Health and Safety at Work Act. The information
contained in this PSDS does not constitute the user's own assessment
of workplace risks required by law. Any use not in accordance with
this other guidance from the supplier is the sole responsibility of
the user. Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information
