PRESS RELEASE
OCBP LTD. LAUNCHES THE "HEG" RANGE OF BIO-CLEANSERS AND ABSORBENTS
IN AVIATION MARKETS
Wednesday April 18th. 1996
Oil Cleaning Bio-Products Ltd. is launching in the Aircraft Engineering,
Aviation and Airport markets its innovative "Heg" range of highly
efficient bacterial oil cleansers, degreasers, absorbents and bioremediation
agents. Each of these products, in different ways, will greatly enhance
safe and environmentally friendly operations in aircraft engineering,
construction and repair workshops, aircraft ground movements and refuelling,
and airport maintenance. In particular, the products can deal effectively
and simply with spills of oils, aviation fuel and anti-freeze on hard
surfaces, with degreasing and parts washing, with aircraft and general
airport cleaning, with oil in site drainage systems and with contaminated
land. Two of the products also act as fire retardants.
Commenting on the scope for the "Heg" products in the Aviation sector,
OCBP's Managing Director Richard Genochio said: "The success of the
products in other sectors suggests that aircraft manufacturers, airlines
and airports - which already work to very high standards of environmental
control - also have much to gain from the use of effective and biodegradable
materials. Unlike so many widely used, harsh, toxic and non-biodegradable
products, the "Heg" products are themselves safe to use and enable
users to deal on site with problems of contamination, rather than
merely pass them on to the drainage system, to the atmosphere - or
to specialist waste contractors." On the regulatory regime facing
the industry he added: "The standards to which operators aspire have
become steadily more demanding. The "Heg" products will enable the
Aviation industry to cope better with current problems and to achieve
tomorrow's standards today."
NOTES FOR EDITORS
1) The naturally occurring bacteria in the "Heg" products have been
specially selected for their ability to break down a wide variety
of hydrocarbon molecules so that captured oily wastes can be decomposed
to their harmless constituents - on site if this is required. The
bacteria come in the media of i) a biodegradable surfactant, ii) a
biodegradable water-based non-chlorinated solvent and iii) biodegradable
and non-abrasive plant-based absorbents. The liquids are very effective
cleansers and degreasers, which also enable bacteria to function and
thus provide a biodegradable run-off. Oil emulsified or solubilised
in the cleaning stage will separate out subsequently to enable it
to be collected from the surface if this is required. The absorbents
variously provide a non-slip floors, reduce VOCs, take oil off water,
can be placed in drainage systems and interceptors to reduce hydrocarbon
loading or around drainage points to keep oil out and can remediate
contaminated land.
2) The "Heg" range of products consists of: Hegol
(oil degrading bacteria added to a biodegradable surfactant, used
for the removal of oil from concrete and from metallic and other hard
surfaces, for vehicle/aircraft washing, for kitchen and lavatory drains
and odour control, and for general commercial cleaning); Hegsolv (oil
degrading bacteria added to a biodegradable and non-corrosive water-based
solvent with rust inhibitor, used for degreasing, heavy-duty cleansing,
as a parts washing liquid and to prepare surfaces for painting); Hegrem
(oil-trapping absorbent made from biodegradable plant fibres with
oil degrading bacteria, used loose for bioremediation of contaminated
land or in sock form to float in interceptors and remove and destroy
hydrocarbons); Hegfloor (similar to Hegrem and therefore non-abrasive,
but fewer bacteria and almost dust free - used loose as a premium
absorbent for oil and fuel spilled on hard surfaces); and Hegsorb
(biodegradable specially treated plant fibres which absorb and trap
oil spilled in water - also used in pillow or boom form to remove
oil from interceptors and to protect drainage points).
